Sump Pumps

Sump pump not working? Don’t delay, call us today!

You may never give your sump pump much thought, but it plays an important role for many homeowners. If you have a basement, cellar, or any other area that is prone to flooding, having a sump pump that is in good working order can make a huge difference in the health and safety of your home.

Flooding not only causes potential damage, but it can also eventually lead to excess moisture inside your own. This is a leading cause of mold growth, which is a major health hazard, especially for those with asthma, allergies and other health issues. Global Services is an experienced plumber offering a range of sump pump repair services in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Burlington, Gloucester & Camden county that will get your pump up and running again quickly and within your budget. Our team is committed to quality service that you can count on when you need us – including after hours for emergency situations.

What is a sump pump?

Put simply, a sump pump is an electric pump that is placed in areas that are prone to flooding. They are typically dug into the floor itself and drilled through the foundation directly. It collects water that overflows into the area from a higher point, or from elsewhere in the basement, and then directs it upward using an electric motor where it can be added to a drainage field or sewer drains.

This keeps the basement from collecting excess water, which can not only do damage to the basement itself but can also cause a host of other problems, including mold and mildew. There are two main types of sump pumps. One sits on a pedestal, while the other is submersible. The latter is much quieter, though slightly more expensive. Both types are effective.

Who needs a sump pump?

Any home with a basement, crawl space, or cellar that accumulates water during heavy rain could benefit from having a sump pump put in place. You may need to venture beneath your home in order to see how much water, if any, has accumulated. Or, you give us a call and we’ll help you figure out whether a pump is necessary for your situation.

If you don’t have a sump pump but have determined that you need one, our sump pump contractors also offer installation services. Installing a pump is a detailed process that requires skill and precision with placement, since all sump pumps must be put inside of a sump pit, which must be positioned in the basement floor, far enough away from the wall to avoid hitting the footings.

If your basement or crawl space has a dirt floor this can be easier to install. If it’s concrete, then a jackhammer will be needed to create the pit. This is a complex job that leaves little room for error. It will also need to be dug deep enough to add a pump basin, and it will need to be attached to a discharge pipe, which requires the drilling of an additional hole through your home. Since these pumps run on electricity, it will also need to have access to a GFCI plug. You should never use an extension cord for a sump pump, as you risk the possibility of damaging the pump or electrical shock.

Although you may be tempted to DIY this project, it is one that’s best left to professionals. Any error could not only do damage to your pump and foundation wall, but it could also leave you vulnerable to excess water and the issues that arise from such. Our team of sump pump contractors is happy to serve our community with fast, affordable, and effective sump pump installation throughout the Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Burlington, Gloucester & Camden county area.
